Carpet manufacturing is a significant sector within the textile and handicraft industries, known for blending traditional artistry with modern production techniques.
This industry involves the creation of hand-knotted, hand-woven, and machine-made carpets using materials such as wool, silk, cotton, and synthetic fibers.
Carpet manufacturing supports a wide range of applications, from residential and commercial interiors to hospitality and cultural spaces.
With intricate designs, rich colors, and durable craftsmanship, carpets play an important role in interior décor while contributing to export earnings and cultural representation.
Women Enterprise Korgah is a women-led handicraft enterprise based in Gulmit, Gojal (Upper Hunza), Gilgit-Baltistan. Established in 1998 with the support of the Karakoram Area Development Organisation (KADO), Korgah was created to preserve traditional weaving while generating sustainable livelihoods for rural women.
Today, a dedicated group of women artisans independently produces 100% handwoven carpets, rugs, bags, wallets, decorative items, and traditional caps using time-honored techniques. Each product reflects the cultural heritage of Hunza and is crafted with patience, skill, and care.
After becoming fully independent in 2005, Korgah now manages its own production, sales, and finances, and participates in exhibitions and cultural events across Pakistan. The enterprise has earned national recognition and welcomes visitors, diplomats, and organizations from around the world.
Korgah represents *women empowerment, cultural preservation, and quality craftsmanship*, keeping Hunza’s art and weaving traditions alive.
